The New iPad

Date Written: March 2012

At this point, you have probably heard about the latest iPad from Apple. Officially called the "New iPad" according to Apple's website, the tablet will be the third generation of the very popular device. It is set to be released on Friday, March 16 in several countries including the United States.

Check out some of the new features here:

Screen

First and foremost is the new screen. The new iPad comes with Retina display that offers four times more pixels than the iPad 2. This provides cleaner text and more vibrant colors with the same smoothness you expect with an iPad.

Camera

The new iPad comes with a huge upgrade in camera over the iPad 2. The third generation iPad comes with a 5 MP camera that features auto-focus and face detection. The upgraded camera will definitely benefit any home inspector looking to take photos with their new tablet and add them directly into their report.

4G LTE

The new iPad is also 4G LTE compatibility, which means browsing the web and downloading content can be even faster. You can take advantage of 4G with a data plan with either Verizon or AT&T. If you are not interested in a data plan, you can purchase the Wi-Fi only model at a lower price.

Battery

Even with new features such as the Retina display and the improved performance, the new iPad does not spare battery life. It still features an excellent 10 hours of battery life with standard use and 9 hours of battery life with 4G use. With this kind of battery life, you won't need to worry about it dying while you are out on an inspection.

Overall

The new iPad comes with a few new features, but doesn't add enough for all of those who already own the iPad 2 to go out and buy it. With the exception of the much improved camera, there is not much new added that would help out the typical inspector. However, do not overlook the value of the better camera. The camera in the iPad 2 was not very good and it is nice to see that the new iPad addresses it. If you don't already own an iPad, and are looking for a new device to use in the field, then both the iPad 2 and the new iPad are great options to look into.
