The iPhone SE was officially announced earlier this week and is an iPhone that some people have been waiting for. The SE is said to stand for 'Special Edition' and preorders for the phone start today. There is nothing groundbreaking or even new with this phone, but what it does is take the features of a bigger, more powerful phone and puts them into a smaller model. An easy way to look at it is that it takes the features and power of the iPhone 6S and puts them in a phone the size of the iPhone 5/5S.This is great for anyone who likes a smaller phone but still wants to keep up with the capabilities of newer devices. The last two years of phone releases from Apple saw a big jump in screen/device size which works well for many people, but not everyone. The new iPhone SE has a 4-inch screen which is smaller than the 4.7-inch 6S, and much smaller than the 5.5-inch 6S Plus. This phone release is unusual for Apple in that it is midway between releases. They typically release new phone models in September and the expectation is that will be the case this year as well. The fact that this phone will only be the 'newest' iPhone for potentially 6 months may turn some people away from making the switch. Another new thing is the lower starting price of $399. This is a full $150 cheaper than Apple normally starts the iPhone at.
