Here are 5 tips and tricks for Android phones and tablets that users may not know about.

  • Notification Bar Settings Icons - By swiping down from the notifications bar on your device's home screen, you'll see icons for some of your device's settings such as WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. To turn one of these settings on or off, simply tap once on the icon.
  • Get Rid of Unwanted Apps on the Home Screen - When you download an app, its shortcut by default will appear on your device's home screen as well as its 'Applications' screen. If you don't want the app's icon to appear in both places, just turn off the 'Auto-add Shortcuts' option. This option can be found in the Google 'Play Store' app under 'Settings.'
  • Type Faster with Multiple Spaces - If you are entering more than a few sentences in a text box on your device, there is an easier way to move from one sentence to another. Rather than having to type a period at the end of each sentence and then hit the space bar, just tap the space bar twice to create a new sentence.
  • Close a Running App - When you are working with your Android device, you may sometimes find that you need to close out of an app that's in use. To close the app, select the 'Settings' app on your device, select 'Applications,' 'Manage Applications,' and then select the 'Running' option at the top of the screen. This will bring up a list of apps that are running on your phone. From the list, tap on the app that you want to close and then tap 'Force Stop.' The option titles you'll want to select may vary on the different Android versions, but the steps you'll take are the same.
  • Reboot the System - If you are working in an Android app on your phone or tablet and it freezes or becomes unresponsive, you can easily restart your device just by holding in the power button. Holding in the power button will open a pop-up menu from which you can select 'Power Off' and then tap 'OK' to confirm. The system will then turn off and you can simply hold in the power button again to restart it.
