Android has been known to name their software updates after different kinds of sweets and their latest update is no different. Android's latest update will be 4.4 Kitkat.Kitkat brings some new features and enhancements, while avoiding a complete overhaul to the operating system. With such a wide variety of Android devices on the market, many of them are running a different version of the operating system. Kitkat will allow for more Android devices to get the latest update, so that the majority of Android smartphones and tablets will all be on the same version. Google is giving manufacturers and carriers the opportunity to put KitKat on all of their devices in 2014. However, it will ultimately be up to the manufacturer if they follow through. Unfortunately if the past is any indication, we will still be seeing new phones released with Android 4.3.Some of the new features include unlimited home screen panels, enhanced Caller ID, Quickoffice for editing documents, and their new voice activation feature called 'OK Google Now'. While the update is not ground breaking, the new features offer a nice upgrade over the current operating system.Android 4.4 Kitkat has already rolled out to the Nexus 5 smartphone. Google says that the update will be available on the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, HTC One, and Galaxy S4 soon.
