Taking a Screenshot with an Android Device

Date Written: 4/2/15

Taking a screenshot allows you to capture exactly what you are seeing on screen and save it as a picture file.

These are the steps to take a screenshot on an Android device:

  • Navigate to the screen you want to capture. Then, depending on your device you'll either press and hold the Power/Lock and Home buttons at the same time, or the Power/Lock and Volume Down buttons at the same time. You'll need to hold the buttons down for 1-2 seconds.
  • For Samsung devices and earlier version of Android it will be the Power/Lock and Home buttons.
For most other devices it will be the Power/Lock and Volume Down buttons.
  • After you let go of the buttons when you see the screen shrink into a frame, and/or with some devices you hear a camera shutter or a notification bar appears at the top. That's when you know you have captured the screenshot.
  • You will be able to view the screenshot either from that notification or by going into your picture gallery.

Note: Taking a screenshot can be tricky and take a little practice. If at first you don't succeed go back and try again! Also remember the key is pressing the buttons at the same time.
