New iPad Pro

The New iPad Pro

Date Written: 6/29/2017

On June 5, 2017 Apple announced the latest versions of the iPad Pro model and they were released on June 13th. It comes in both a 10.5-inch and a 12.9-inch model. These devices include upgraded specs over the last iPad Pro models, but there isn't anything groundbreaking in them. Better specs will often lead to better performance which is always a good thing, but last year's models were already powerful and the differences between the models this year and last year might not be enough for the typical consumer to upgrade. With that said, if you have an iPad that is several years old and you are looking to upgrade, then this newest model is definitely worth checking out. It's also important to note that the upcoming release of iOS 11 has features in it that will improve the functionality and experience of using an iPad.

The iPad Pro is not going to be for every home inspector. The two challenges with it are the price (starting at $649) and the screen size. We purchased last year's 12.9-inch model and found it to be a beautiful and powerful device. It was lightning fast and the screen was great to look at. The challenge was the size. The device is large and many inspectors would find it too large to carry around with them on an inspection, especially if they're walking roofs, getting in crawl spaces, etc.

Here are the specs:

  • OS: iOS 10
  • Processor: A10X Fusion chip with 64-bit architecture
  • Display: 10.5-inch (2224x1668), 12.9-inch (2732x2048)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Battery: 30.4-watt-hour (10.5-inch model), 41-watt-hour (12.9-inch model)
  • Camera: 12-megapixel camera rear facing, 7-megapixel front facing
  • Memory: 64GB, 256GB or 512GB
