LG announced the G8 ThinQ smartphone on February 24th and it is set to release today (April 11th). This is the latest model in their ThinQ line and it looks like a solid, though not spectacular upgrade over last year's model. The phone is fast, takes good pictures, is water resistant and still includes a headphone jack.
The G8 ThinQ does have a few things that make it different. This line of phone has been known for its great speaker quality and the G8 doesn't disappoint. Instead of having a front-facing earpiece, it has a Crystal Sound OLED that essentially makes the whole screen a speaker. The phone also has a feature called Air Motion which lets you navigate the phone without actually touching it. The early feedback on this is that it’s a cool idea, but at this point doesn't necessarily make it easier to use. Also included is Hand ID which unlocks your phone based on the unique vein layout in your palm. Again this is a cool feature, but does it actually make it a more useful phone?
Overall the G8 ThinQ appears to be a good phone made by a well known brand. It is pricier than previous year's models and there isn't much here that makes it jump out, especially when compared to other phones like the Samsung Galaxy series and Google's Pixel phones. If you love LG and need a new phone then this would be a solid pickup, but if you are just looking for a new Android phone make sure to compare this one side by side with other options to make sure it fits what you're looking for best.
