In 2013 Microsoft released the Surface Pro which was a touch screen hybrid tablet/laptop with a detachable keyboard. It ran the Windows 8 operating system and was designed to compete directly with the iPad and Android tablets. It didn't get off to a great start, but Microsoft continued to invest in the devices and since then they have released 4 newer models of the device (these have been released about once a year and the models are the Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Pro 2017).Over the past few years we've talked to a lot of inspectors who use the Surface Pro and have heard good feedback. It's not for everyone, but it has its strong points. If you want to use a touch screen, portable device in the field and prefer sticking with the Windows operating system, then this may be the best option available. It works with a stylus pen, however, newer models don't include a pen by default so you'll have to purchase this separately. Palm-Tech will run on a Surface Pro the same way it would on any other Windows PC (desktop/laptop/tablet). You'll install it the same way and it will have the same functionality. The latest model is the Surface Pro 2017 and was released on June 15th 2017. It runs Windows 10 and there are about 10 different configurations to choose from that scale in price for $799 to $2699. You certainly don't need the more expensive model to run Palm-Tech so you'll want to decide which one to get based on all the ways you plan to use it.
