Apple held a special event on September 10th to announce two new iPhones that will be released on September 20th. They also announced that their latest operating system, iOS 7, will be released on September 18th.Apple announced the launch of their latest and greatest smartphone, the iPhone 5S, and a cheaper model that will add a splash of color, the iPhone 5C. The higher end 5S will receive multiple upgrades to the camera, processor, battery life, and will feature a new fingerprint scanner for security. Apple's new A7 processor will reportedly make the 5S twice as fast as the iPhone 5, which would certainly be impressive. The iPhone 5S will be available in silver, gold, and "space gray" with the 16GB model retailing for $199 (with a 2 year contract).The iPhone 5C will offer customers a cheaper iPhone option at $99 (with a 2 year contract) that will offer many of the same features of the iPhone 5. It will however offer improvements to battery life and camera quality. Also for the first time ever, an iPhone will be available in several colors including white, red, yellow, blue, and green.Both new iPhones will ship with iOS 7, which adds several new features as well. Apple also announced that iOS 7 will be available for free starting September 18th for iPhone 4 models, the iPad 2 (and newer), and the iPad Mini.
