Android Lollipop 5.1

Android Lollipop 5.1

Date Written: 4/9/15

The latest update to Android OS is Android Lollipop 5.1 and was officially announced on March 9 2015. It includes a handful of new features and quite a few small changes that users will find helpful. Here are some of the key changes/additions:

  • Ignores Bad or Broken Wi-Fi Connections - Devices will remember Wi-Fi connections that they attempted to connect to in the past that were broken or poor quality and will no longer automatically attempt to connect to them.
  • Better Device Protection - Additional device security features are automatically activated for users who set a secure lock screen method such as a PIN. One area this provides increased protection is if your phone is lost or stolen since in order to do anything with the phone the Google Account password must be entered even after a factory reset.
  • HD Audio Phone Calls - HD audio calls are supported with this update, however, in order to take advantage of it you need to have a compatible device and a signal that is strong enough to handle the improved audio.
  • And More - Other changes include: The ability to temporarily dismiss notifications, the ability to run two SIMS at once, ability to access the quick settings drawer even when your device is locked, along with other changes.
